Digital Storytelling
A Digital Story is a video project made by combining photographs, voice, music and text together into a movie about the self, and what’s important to us.
In each workshop, Youth and Elders worked together to learn storytelling, photography composition skills, voice recording, and video editing skills to become Digital Storytellers.
A chance to think about who we are, where we belong and what is important to us, when we become the storyteller, we shift from passive consumers of media, to active creators. Instead of simply watching Youtube or Tiktok videos, we are the ones telling and sharing our stories.
This video production workshop format also lends itself really well to diving into the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Heritage archives to find images and audio recordings of relatives and ourselves, which we can then bring into our current projects, if we so choose. Jessie Curell of Hands On Media has been delivering Digital Storytelling workshops with TH Youth and Elders since 2021, and in 2025 mentored two TH Youth (Alysha Van Bibber and Dre Lacosse) to host these workshops themselves, plus develop this website to host these videos, photographs and stories.
These workshops were funded by TH Heritage and TH Education — a huge mähsį cho to Allie Winton, Jody Beaumont and Ashley Bower-Bramadat for their support over the years.
